A big welcome from the Year 5 and 6 team. We are all missing having classes full of our children from Hotham, Regis and Wheatland and we are already proud that so many of you have been taking up the challenge on both spelling and maths shed but also on SATs boot camp. The Hive Games have been a big success – well done to all those that have taken part and have been patient with us!
We have loved receiving pictures of your work – particularly some of your amazing writing – and keep checking Spelling/Maths shed as well as Boot Camp to see who is taking part. From Easter onwards, as well as these two websites, try including MyOn (reading) and Times Tables Rockstars in your daily schedule.
A big well done to the small group of you who are leaving reviews on MyOn as well – we have all enjoyed reading the reviews of your books, and would encourage more of you to be on MyOn looking at their vast array of books! For more reading, have a look at some of the staff from year 5 and 6 reading the fantastic book ‘Wonder’ below.
Year 5 and 6 Song - 'I Will Fear No More'
Hello everyone and Happy Bank Holiday! Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine.
The Year 5/6 team are missing you all and realise that this is a very difficult time for everyone. With all the changes, it is very hard to know what to think.
We have found a lovely song that we have found uplifting and reminds us that if we trust in God he will give us the strength to get through this difficult time.
So – here is the exciting project idea. The song is called ‘I Will Fear No More’ by The Afters (link to the video at the bottom).
If you would like to, we would love all or some of you to show your understanding of a particularly line by showing your own illustration of it. You can show your understanding of the words through a picture, a key word written out or a photo of you at home – sharing your interpretation of the line.
If you would like to be part of this, let Mrs Hogan-Hussein know by emailing – just a quick message saying “I’m in” will do! and she will send you a line from the song to illustrate.
If you would like to be part of this please email by WEDNESDAY of this week and I will reply yo you by Wednesday evening . I will need pictures by FRIDAY so we can get it out for the 1st June.
Any parents/ pets that would like to join you are very welcome too. Please do pass the message onto friends and encourage them to join us. The more people we can get involved the better. We could make something really beautiful together that we will all treasure in the future.
Take care of yourselves
The Year 5/6 Team
Previous week - Home Learning - week beginning - 11.5.20
And here’s a little greeting from Miss Breese with some instructions on this week’s home learning.
So, all the staff that work with the children in year 5 and 6 were beginning to feel jealous of all the lovely stories being read for the children in KS1 and Early Years. So we thought, why not read a story to the children in year 5 and 6! Miss Breese suggested one of her favourite books: “Wonder”.
It was made into a film in 2017 which some of you may have seen, but instead of one of us just reading the book to you, we thought we’d take turns. So each day for the next few weeks, we’ll add the next few chapters of the book, starting from Monday 11th May with Mr Mortimore. You can follow along using the PDF below, or just listen away.
Some of us have split our video into bits, and some of us have. Hopefully the lettering and numbering on each video should guide you to which one is the next video. We hope you enjoy!
