‘The Pebble in my Pocket’

On Tuesday this week, year 3 & 4 walked to the beach to be inspired by our new book ‘The Pebble in my Pocket’.
This book begs the questions, ‘Where do pebbles come from?’ and ‘How were pebbles made?’ Starting from 450 million years ago, we will go on the journey, beginning with a fiery volcano, together.
We all chose a pebble to bring back to school with us, looking closely at the markings and thinking about the story behind it. We drew a sketch and thought about questions that we might ask it.

“I think that it is a sedimentary rock because it is by the sea.”

“I wonder why some of them are black. Are they igneous?”

“I think this one has a crack because it has broken off a larger rock.”

“This one is smooth because of the water in the sea.”
